Website Not Accepting Temporary Email? Why and What to Do

A website not accepting temporary email usually blocks known disposable domains. See the two kinds of rejection, what to try next, and when to stop.

By FreeTemp3 min read

A website not accepting temporary email is a common problem, and the cause is rarely your typing. Many websites keep lists of domains they recognize as disposable and refuse any address on those lists. FreeTemp has no setting that changes how another website decides, so the useful question is what to try next.

Two kinds of rejection

What you seeWhat it usually meansWhat to do
The form shows an error such as "this email is not allowed"The site recognized the domain and refused itTry another address, or another way to sign up
The form accepts the address but no message ever arrivesThe site may filter silently, or the message was delayedCheck the address, wait a minute, resend once
The message arrives but the link or code failsThe code expired or was replaced by a newer oneUse the most recent message only

What to try, in order

  1. Read the error again. Some forms reject an address because of a typo or an unsupported character, not because of the domain.
  2. Create a new address. Open FreeTemp and press new address. The service can use more than one domain, so the new address may be on a different one. There is no promise that it will pass.
  3. Check the inbox, not only the form. If the site said "email sent", watch the inbox for a minute before you decide it failed.
  4. Use another sign-up route. If the site offers a different way in, such as signing in with an account you already use, that route may not need a separate address.
  5. Use an address you control. For a service you really want, a real address or an alias is the honest answer. Read temporary email vs disposable email vs aliases to choose.

Get a temporary email

Why websites do this

What the site wants

A site may want to reach you again, may want to limit repeat free trials, or may want to prevent abuse. Those are the site's own rules and it is entitled to set them.

Why tricks backfire

Looking for ways to disguise a temporary address is a bad idea: the account can be closed later, and you may lose whatever you gained.

If you still cannot get the message

Frequently asked questions

Why does a site reject my temporary address?

Many sites keep lists of domains they treat as disposable and refuse them at the form. It is the site's rule, not an error on your side.

Will a new FreeTemp address work if the first one failed?

Possibly. The service can use more than one domain, so a new address may be on another domain, but nothing guarantees that the site will accept it.

What should I do if the site never accepts temporary email?

Use another sign-up route if the site offers one, or use an address you control. Keep temporary inboxes for accounts you can lose.
